Rods

In the retina of the eye, there are two types of photoreceptor cells: rods and cones. Rod photoreceptors are responsible for scotopic vision, allowing us to see in low levels of light. However, this type of vision does not provide us with any colour vision. This is in contrast with cones which allow colour vision in higher levels of light (photopic vision).
