Organic chemistry is the chemistry of carbon containing compunds.  These organic compounds will contain carbon atoms and hydrogen but may also include oxygen, nitrogen, sulpher and group 1 metals from the periodic table.  examples of these compounds are hydrocarbons, esters, alcohols etc.  Organic compounds are used widely within the body as food sources, allowing cells to function, and in pharmaceuticals.
