Gluconeogenesis is the production of  glucose from the end product of glycolysis, which pyruvate. Essentially, gluconeogenesis(glucose synthesis) is the reverse reaction of glcolysis(glucose breakdown). However, these two reactions are not competely irreversible, due to the "one-way" steps along the individual processes and the different catalysing enzymes.
