Cystine

Cystine is an amino acid which is important in determining protein tertiary structure and this is because of its ability to form disulphide bridges with other cystine residues within the chain. The bonds formed are covalent and therefore are very strong and rigid.
Cystine is coded for by two codons: TGT and TGC
