Rhodopsin also known as opsin 2 is a member of the GPCR family and is a seven spanning membrane protein.

Rhodopsin, unlike many other GPCR's is activated by a photon of light, which causes activation of the G protein transducin (Gt), whose α subunit, then activates cyclic GMP phosphodiesterase.[1]
