Innate immune response

The innate immune response is our bodies initial response against pathogens. Unlike the antigen specific adaptive immunity the mechanisms of the innate immune system enable us to distinguish forgein pathogens from self.

The mechanisms of innate immunity are found everyday in our blood, extracellular fluid and secretions. Antimicrobrial enzymes, antimicrobrial proteins and complement help us kills pathogenic cells by lysis or marking them to be recognised and phagocytosed by macrophages.
