Cocci
Bacteria have a wide variety of shapes (different morphologies) and sizes which are important in cell recognition and identification of bacteria. Cocci are spherical in shape and can be arranged:
- In pairs to form diplococci
- In chains to form streptococci
- In grape like structures to form staphylococci
- In groups of 4 to form tetrads
- In cubic groups of 8 to form sarcinae
