Turgor pressure

Turgor pressureis the osmotic pressure in plant cells, bacteria, fungi and some protists which is casued by the movement of water into the cell by osmosis. This subsequently causes the plasma membrane and vacuole to be pushed against the cell wall. The cell does not burst as the cell wall is strong enough to withstand the increase in pressure. In contrast to this, animal cells may burst (lysis) as their cells do not contain a cell wall .
