Thyroid stimulating hormone

 Thyroid hormones are made from the amino acid thyrosine (Tyr, Y). They act to increase the metabolic rate of many cell types, the responses to them are determined as much by the nature of the target cell as by the nature of the signal molecule. The target tissue of the hormone is the 'Thyroid gland' which is in the neck.
