In biological terms an organism is any independent life form, whether single-celled bacteria or multi-cellular plants and animals [1].

In general terms a virus would not be considered to be a living organism because they are unable to live independently. That is, they can only replicate within a host cell.

A living system capable of some response to stimuli, composed of different parts which have formed a symbiotic relationship[2].
