Aspartic acid is an amino acid that is negatively charged and has an acidic side chain.
It is one of two acidic amino acids, the other being glutamic acid. It is important in the solubility and ionic properties of proteins . Aspartic acid's one letter code is D and it has the three letter code of Asp. There are two nucleotide codons for Aspartic acid; GAU and GAC .
