The Oxford dictionary of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology defined compound as "any substance containing two or more identical or nonidentical chemical atoms in fixed numerical proportions and held together by one or more kinds of chemical bond."[1] In a simpler approach, when two or more chemical atoms form together, it will form a compound.
