Types of intestines:
The intestines refer to two separate organs:
- the small intestine, which absorbs the majority of the nutrients from food. The small intestines have intestinal villi and microvilli on the lumen, to increase the surface area of the organ in order to absorb more nutrients from food.
- the large intestine, which reabsorbs water from food waste and is involved in the production of faeces.
