Oxygen debt

 When the muscle does excess work, it respires anaerobically. This causes accumulation of lactic acid. During recovery, the oxygen consumed by the muscle exceeds far more than the normal oxygen consumption. This extra oxygen consumed when the musle recovers is called Oxygen Debt.
