One of the major phospholipids found in the plasma membrane of mammals. Like most phospholipids in the mammalian cell membrane it is made up of two fatty acid chains (tails) linked with an ester bond to a glycerol backbone (it is a phosphoglyceride) which is linked to a choline molecule, as the name suggests, via a phosphate. See also lipid bilayer.
