Pyrococcus furiosus is classed as a hyperthermophile due to its ability to survive in extremely high temperatures. The DNA polymerase of P. furiosus is an enzyme that can be used as an alternative to Taq Polymerase (from the organism Thermus Aquaticus) during PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)[1].
