Scoliosis is a condition of a abnormal sideway curvature to the spine. The severity of the curve can vary from very mild and barely noticeable to severe depending on the degree of the curve. The disorder is hereditary, however there is no correlation of the severity from one generation to the next. Scoliosis curvature is usually in the thoracic or thoracolumbar spine. If a hump or asymmetry of the upper or lower back is found, or if the shoulders are different heights, then you should seek medial advice with a clinical physician, and an X-ray may be required. Depending on the severity and risk of the condition getting worse it can be treated with bracing or surgery.
