What did you do?

SELLL had a Christmas party.

Who is involved?

The party was organised by SELLS's senior tutor, Stacy Gillis, for final year students.

How do you do it?

SELLL booked the Hatton Gallery for an evening and provided wine and nibbles. Final year students were invited.

Why do you do it?

The party was designed to show students they were valued by their department. Whilst SELLLS's specific NSS scores for teaching have been strong, this was an attempt to address issues contributing to lower overall satisfaction scores. It gave students an opportunity to chat informally with staff, and as such was also a low-key means of gathering student feedback on what they thought about SELLS as a whole.

Does it work?

c. 140 of the 200 final year students came, many of whom had dressed for the occasion. Staff and students reported that they enjoyed the party. This is one of many approaches tried by SELLS and their NSS satisfaction score was higher in this year than in previous years.
