Using students as Change Agents to champion good feedback
Head of Combined Studies and 3 selected students
Three students were recruited to the role. They spent time gathering evidence of feedback practice from their peers to identify the main concerns. Concerns identified were:- - examination feedback - lack of feedback - quality of feedback
To involve students and empower them to enhance their own experience of assessment and feedback and to encourage and influence institutional change in this area.
It was not easy for the students to followup their work and directly influence institutional processes, however they have probably had an indirect influence through other university initiatives and projects. It is clear that a sizeable proportion of students are now looking for feedforward before submitting assessments, for transparency in assessment processes and for implicit assumptions and expectations about assessment and feedback to be made explicit.
