Scope of business

Our environmental operations advisors help us to ensure the safe, reliable and compliant operation of our sites and the well-being of our people, and oversee our controlled impact on the environment. As part of international projects, they work to prevent hydrocarbon releases, deliver projects to schedule and on budget, and liaise with local regulators to guarantee our licences to operate. Throughout the lifecycle of our projects and operations, environmental operations advisors work to manage environmental issues and address any related impacts on local communities.

Scope of role

Working as an environmental operations advisor, you will support our operations and projects around the world. Working in project teams with major contractors, you will ensure the correct selection, specification and construction of mechanical equipment and systems, whether we’re building new facilities or modifying existing assets. Working in asset teams within operations, you will develop and implement maintenance programmes, monitor equipment performance and troubleshoot operational problems. You will also work as a technical specialist advising our clients on their operations and projects.

Responsibilities / Activities

  • You will provide expertise and drive the delivery of environmental management in line with the UK and/or international legal requirements.
  • Support the process for identifying, planning and delivering the environmental improvements.
  • Maintain existing (or develop new) procedures, tools and methodologies and share best practice in environmental management.
  • Analyse, evaluate and benchmark environmental performance.
  • Ensure environmental requirements are factored into UK and international assurance planning.
  • Act as a technical authority to assure the environmental content of project and asset control documents.
  • Participate in environmental audits and business self-assessments. Support the dissemination of learning from environmental incidents.
  • Manage environmental services contracts to support delivery and development of the client / contractor interface.

Skills required

  • To have attained, or be likely to attain, at least a 2.i (upper second class) degree in a relevant discipline.
  • MSc in Environmental Consultancy preferred (or a willingness to work towards this qualification on appointment as part of our 3-year Graduate Training Programme).
  • Work experience in relevant field preferred.
  • A demonstrable passion for sustainability projects and the environment is essential.
  • Must have an awareness of the ethical and legal issues associated with sustainable development.
  • Excellent communicator both in report writing and in oral presentations.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Must have the ability to build and develop internal and external relationships.
  • Well organised and able to manage time effectively.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team (acting as its leader when required).

Pay for this entry-level graduate position is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
