Logistics roles are some of the most important positions within Geode. They are vital to ensuring a steady flow of products coming into the company, that customers have a wide range of products to choose from, and that suppliers have enough stock to deal with demand.Geode is constantly expanding, which brings with it new challenges and opportunities. Therefore, a strong, efficient approach to helping to make sure every part of our organisation has access to the best and most cost-effective resources has never been more important.

Scope of role

Geode’s logistics and supply chain officers ensure that we buy the right products, from the right supplier, at the right time and at the right price. Innovative improvements are valued and our officers take on strategic as well as operational goals in their work with suppliers, contractors and government bodies. Logistics and supply chain officers also line manage Geode’s warehouse staff and transport clerks to ensure that materials are stored correctly and dispatched on time.

Responsibilities / Activities

  • Monitoring data to keep accurate product, contract, pricing and invoicing information.
  • Working closely with suppliers and customers to improve operations and reduce cost.
  • Ensuring the personal safety and safe working environment of staff.
  • Communicating objectives to managers and key personnel in procurement, logistics and distribution.
  • Negotiating contracts to reduce costs and achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Providing accurate routing information to ensure that delivery times and locations are coordinated.
  • Ensuring Geode’s compliance with transport policies, procedures and legislation (e.g. Tachograph, Towing, ADR regulations).
  • Ensuring that Geode’s vehicle fleet is well maintained and that accurate documentation and records are held.
  • Accurately calculating total supply chain costs in relation to proposed new projects.
  • Obtaining quotes for transportation and also making cost comparisons.
  • Liaising and negotiating with customers and suppliers.

Skills required

  • To have attained, or be likely to attain, at least a 2.i (upper second class) degree in any discipline.
  • MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management preferred (or a willingness to work towards this qualification on appointment as part of our 3-year Graduate Training Programme).
  • Work experience in relevant field preferred.
  • Effective communicator both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to build and develop internal and external relationships.
  • Well organised and able to manage time effectively.
  • Work experience in relevant field preferred.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team (acting as its leader when required).
  • Ability to work well under pressure.

Pay for this entry-level graduate position is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
