At Geode we strive to fulfil our duty to our clients, the public and the environment while maximising both our profits and the profits of our clients. The job of our finance department is to ensure that the best financial interests of the company are adequately represented and protected.
Scope of role
Geode’s accountants provide trustworthy information about financial records. This involves financial reporting, taxation, auditing, forensic accounting, corporate finance, business recovery and insolvency, or accounting systems and processes. Generally, they play a strategic role by providing professional advice, aiming to maximise the profitability of Geode and our clients. As a trainee accountant, you will be supported through to the completion of the Chartered Certified Accountants examinations.
Responsibilities / Activities
- Bookkeeping for different projects or departments.
- Preparing accounts, some from incomplete records, for a range of clients, from sole traders and partnerships through to larger limited companies.
- Tax returns for both personal and corporate clients.
- Assisting with audits of Geode’s different departments.
- Working as part of a team to devise efficient spending strategies for Geode, minimising waste or un-profitable investments.
- Providing preliminary financial reports for major projects.
- Continuing to assess the financial situation of major projects from the beginning until their completion.
- Providing managers with comprehensive reports on the financial situation of projects and devising innovative cost-saving procedures.
Skills required
- To have attained, or be likely to attain, at least a 2.i (upper second class) degree in any discipline.
- Ideally, candidates will have also completed some or all of their Association of Chartered Certified Accountants examinations. However, we will be able to offer sponsorship through the ACCA qualifications process to the right candidate as part of our 3-year Graduate Training Programme (graduates whose degree contained finance content may be able to apply for exemptions from some of the ACCA exams).
- Work experience in relevant field preferred.
- Evidence of excellent numerical, written and verbal communication skills essential.
- Ability to research, analyse and evaluate complex financial issues for internal and external consumption.
- Ability to build and develop internal and external relationships.
- Candidates should have self-confidence to advise managers on a variety of financial issues.
- Well organised and able to manage time effectively.
- Experience in managing multiple projects preferred.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team (acting as its leader when required).
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
