Geode works alongside some of the largest non-government producers of oil and gas in the world, with operations currently on two continents and in five different countries. Exploration consultants work with our clients to expand current reserves and secure future hydrocarbon resources. Exploration work is highly varied in terms of both the geological setting and the different countries in which we operate.
Scope of role
Exploration consultants are required to provide technical and project management support to our client’s exploration teams. You will be based in Ayr, but with the opportunity to spend time at exploration centres worldwide, as well as working offshore.
Responsibilities / Activities
- Evaluate geological data before drilling to decide on the location of wells, and use this information to predict and avoid drilling hazards.
- Analyse, interpret and evaluate geological and geophysical data during drilling.
- Compare predictions with live data obtained during drilling.
- Make key decisions as to when and where to drill, when to continue drilling and when to cease operations.
- Maintain detailed records of the exploration, including written reports and up-to-date logs.
- Supervise on-site teams and monitor quality control and health and safety compliance.
Skills required
- To have attained, or be likely to attain, at least a 2.i (upper second class) degree in a relevant discipline.
- MSc in Engineering Geology preferred (or a willingness to work towards this qualification on appointment as part of our 3-year Graduate Training Programme).
- Experience of GIS mapping, database and analytical programs preferred.
- Experience in the use of technical field equipment preferred.
- A demonstrable passion for exploration projects and sustainable fuel use.
- Must have an awareness of the ethical and legal issues associated with international resource exploration.
- Excellent communicator both in report writing and in oral presentations.
- Must have the ability to build and develop internal and external relationships.
- Well organised and able to manage time effectively.
- Experience in managing multiple projects preferred.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team (acting as its leader when required).
