Geode UK is an independent, global consultancy based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, specialising in energy and environmental management services. This is a dynamic sector of the economy and it is vital that Geode has the opportunity to input into new political and regulatory initiatives in this area emanating from the British and European Parliaments.
Scope of role
The mission of the Public Affairs team is to make sure that Geode’s senior management (up to and including the Executive Board level) are made aware of regulatory changes that will impact upon our core business. The team also propagates the company’s interests by liaising with regulatory bodies, government ministers and other officials to make sure that Geode’s views are factored into future changes to the regulatory environment in which we operate. While based in London, you will also need to commute regularly to meetings in Brussels and Strasbourg.
Responsibilities / Activities
- To monitor relevant policy outputs of Government and the European Parliament.
- To research government policies and produce reports for the senior strategy team.
- Create a database of key governmental, industry and internal company contacts for easier contact/communications and liaisons.
- To provide swift and immediate support for colleagues on any issue that may impinge on the effective and profitable running of the company.
- To research, write and edit detailed briefings for overseas visits.
Skills required
- To have attained, or be likely to attain, at least a 2.i (upper second class) degree in a relevant discipline.
- MA or MSc in Public Relations, Corporate Communications or similar preferred (or a willingness to work towards one of these qualifications on appointment as part of our 3-year Graduate Training Programme).
- Work experience in relevant field preferred.
- Candidates should be effective communicators both in report writing and in oral presentations.
- Articulate with negotiation and influencing skills.
- A demonstrable passion for the environment and politics is essential.
- Ability to build and develop internal and external relationships.
- Well organised and able to manage time effectively.
- Experience in managing multiple projects preferred.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team (acting as its leader when required).
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
