In biological terms, quiescense is a&nbsp;"resting" cell state (also known as G<sub>0</sub>) entered when there is a lack of signalling from surrounding cells to initiate [[Cell_division|division]]. Cells can remain in the quiescent stage until ready to divide, this can last up to days, weeks, years or indefinately (such as in [[Neuron|neurones]]). If the cell recieves division signals from neighbours, it is ready to undergo division, equally it can also stop recieving [[Surival Factors|survival factors]] which will cause programmed cell death, via [[Apoptosis|apoptosis]].
