Mulitvesicular bodies are complex membrane bound organelles, found in the cytoplasm of cells which contain multiple vesicles. They are 0.5 to 1.0 µm wide and contain matrixes where hydrolytic enzymes are found [1].
Formed by invaginations of the membrane of a late endosomal vesicle they play an important role in endocytosis, mainly in the endosome-to-lysosome pathway [2].
