The epithelium is one of the four major types of tissue found in animals, the other three being muscle tissue, connective tissue and nervous tissue[1].
The epithelium function is to act as a layer of cells that separates the internal parts of the body from the outside world. A good example of this is the skin.
The epithelium is also found lining blood vessels.
