Glut 4 is a member of the Solute Carrier Family 2 (SLCA2) and encodes a protein which is involved in the trafficking of glucose to the plasma membrane. The protein is crucial to glucose transport and mutations within the protein can be involved in Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (Type II Diabetes).
