Polymerase is a term used in enzyme naming which shows the related function of that enzyme. A polymerase enzyme's primary function is the polymerisation of new double stranded DNA or RNA from a single strand (template strand). One of the major enzymes used is Taq Polymerase, this is a thermophilic enzyme vital in PCR reactions.
