DCTP (deoxycytidine 5' triphosphate) is one of four DNTPs required for DNA synthesis, along with DATP, DTTP and DGTP. DCTP has pyrimidine base bound, this means that the base has a single ring structure like that of DTTP. Furthermore DCTP is an essential component of PCR and DNA replication in many living organism: during which the two outer phosphate groups are cleaved and the remaining phosphate group forms a phosphodiester bond with the deoxyribose sugar on the adjacent nucleotide to form the sugar-phosphate backbone[1].
