Functional group
A functional group is a group of atoms in a molecule which are the centre of reactivity and therefore provide it's chemical characteristics[1]. The functional group is also a portion of the molecule that makes it distictive/more easily identifiable, as any molecules which share the same functional group will have undergone/can undergo the same chemical reactions[2].
