The 2 phosphoryl deposits of UTP given off in the reaction to synthesise UDP-glucose from glucose 1 - phosphate and UTP. The reaction is catalysed by UDP - glucose pyrophosphorylase, and the reaction is reversible. Pyrophosphate is hydrolised by pyrophosphatase to orthophosphate and this encourages UDP - glucose synthesis.  Cite error: The opening <ref> tag is malformed or has a bad name
