A homeobox is a DNA sequence around 160 bp long found within genes. Homeoboxes are found in animals, fungi, and plants. It is found within genes that are involved in the regulation of patterns of anatomical development (morphogenesis)[1]. In Ultrabithorax (homeobox gene found in the fruit fly), the UBX protein inhibits the expression of wing genes; if the inhibition is removed then the fruit fly will have an extra pair of wings.
