Acetaldehyde is an organic compound which is soluble in water. Its systematic name is ethanal and has the formula CH3CHO.

Acetaldhyde is the product of alcohol metabolism of ethanol

Ethanol is broken down by alcohol dehydrogenase to ethanal (acetaldhyde) in the liver. This product is more toxic than ethanol [1].
