Astrocytes

 Astrocytes are glial cells in the central nervous system (CNS)^[1]. There are multiple different groups of astrocytes, for example interlaminar astrocytes, velate astrocytes, protoplasmic astrocytes and fibrous astrocytes^[1]. The function of astrocytes is to allow synapses to continue functioning normally^[2]. Additionally, astrocytes are involved in the growth of neural pathways^[2].
