Astrocytes

Astrocytes are glial cells in the central nervous system (CNS)[1]. There are multiple different groups of astrocytes, for example interlaminar astrocytes, velate astrocytes, protoplasmic astrocytes and fibrous astrocytes[1]. The function of astrocytes is to allow synapses to continue functioning normally[2]. Additionally, astrocytes are involved in the growth of neural pathways[2].
