Watson-Crick relates to two renowned scientists, James Watson and Francis Crick. Who are best known for the discovery of the structure ofDNA in 1953. In particular that in order to apply all the facts that were already known about DNA , the structure had to be that of a Double-helix.
With a phosphate-sugar backbone of the outside, held together by peptide bonds. Complementary base pairing between the two strands, held together by Hydrogen bonds. In addition to stacking of the bases in the middle of the helix.
The structure that they determined explained thex ray diffraction photographs that were taken by fellow scientist Rosalind Franklin.
