Autoimmune disorder

An autoimmune disorder is when the immune system creates antibodies that attack healthy cells in the body, potentially leading to the destruction of tissue, abnormal tissue growth or changes to organ function. The causes of this are mainly unknown but certain autoimmune disorders can be inherited from parents such as type 1 diabetes. Other examples of autoimmune diseases are multiple sclerosis, celiac disease and vitiligo.
