Classification is the process of sorting all organisms into groups, making it easier to see links between them and identify organisms currently living.
Classification has a number of systems however the one most widely used today is based on taxonomic groups. These include:
These groups are ordered in hierarchy with the broadest group at the top right down to one specific organism. This classification system can be referred to Linnaean classification after the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus who first proposed it.
Domain was only recently added to the classification system after new discoveries were made and could well change again as technology and understanding progresses.
Classification is based on a range of things but will ultimately group organisms that are similar and have certain things in common e.g evolutionary relationships, feeding habits etc.
