Lactate is a negatively charged organic acid produced during anaerobic respiration. It has the chemical formula CH3CH(OH)COO-. Lactate is produced in humans by the enzyme Lactate dehydrogrenase from Pyruvate, this also converts NAD+ back into NADH. Blood lactate levels are 0.3 -1.3 mMol/l .
