There are two types of nervous systems within the body: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). Within these systems there are two types of cells: neurons and neuroglia. Neuroglia are also known as glial cells.

Neurons recieve, carry and then transmit signals around the body. Their structure consists of an axon surrounded by myelin sheath, axon terminals and branches called dendrites. There are three main types of neurones; sensoryrelay and motor neurons.
