Valvular Heart Disease

Valvular Heart Disease is a type of rheumatic heart disease where problems occur on the heart valves.

Example of damage to the valves:

  • Stenosis
  • Prolapse
  • Regurgitation

Example of causes of valvular damage:

  • illnesses such as infective endocarditis and rheumatic fever
  • Ageing by time (e.g. degeneration & calcification)
  • Congenital Defects
