Salivary glands

Salivary glads are one of the initiators of the digestive process. They are involved in the secretion of saliva that contains salivary amylase, an enzyme that is responsible for the hydrolysis of glycosidic bonds in starch, helping to form the monomeric glucose monomers. This process occurs in the mouth, where food comes into contact with saliva.
