Ran-GAP is a GTPase-activating protein in the cytosol involved in the conversion of Ran-GTP to Ran-GDP in nuclear import. The hydrolysis of Ran-GTP to Ran-GDP causes the release of the import receptor which makes it available to bind more cargo to import into the nucleus through the nuclear pore complex[1].
