Amoxicilin

Amoxicillin or amoxicillin is an antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.It's a type of penicilin which works by binding to the penicillin-binding protein 1A and preventing the bacteria from synthesizing new bacterial cell walls causing cell lysis and preventing the synthesis of new bacteria[1].

Amoxicilin works mostly on gram positive bacteria and some gram-negative bacteria.However, amoxicillin doesn't work in B-lactamase producing bacteria which degrade the antibiotic.Therefore it is often prescribed with clavulanic acid which inhibits B-lactamase.
