Ethidium Bromide

Ethidium Bromide is commonly used during gel electrophoresis in molecular biology labs. The Ethidium Bromide intercalates itself between base pairs allowing the DNA banding pattern to be visualised when illuminated with a UV light source. As might be expected, the addition of ethidium bromide will affect the mobility and rigidity of the DNA molecule through the agarose gel .
